This training package was developed and tested via the Maintenance Welder Upskilling Program. Following the successful outcome of MWUP, the resources have been redesigned to be suitable as a training resource package for RTO's.
The MEM05069 learner guide is a designed as a standalone, but the assessment (Practical and knowledge) are designed for clustered delivery of the following units which are pre and co requisites to MEM05069
MEM05061 - Apply basic metallurgical principles to welding operations
MEM05071 - Advanced thermal cutting and gouging
MEM05084 - Perform advanced welding using flux core arc welding process
MEM05085 - Select welding processes
It is really not possible to write a standalone practical assessment for MEM05069 - it needs to be linked to a relevant advanced welding unit. The most relevant are FCAW and MMAW for typical structural repairs. This is why it is all clustered.
Note that this does not assess for the pre-requisite lower level welding units (eg "weld using" and "perform routine", but it is quite straightforward to map them into the same assessments too if needed.
The MWC microcredential has been independently verified by Audit Express to provide all the required practical assessment evidence towards this cluster of units, and meets RTO standards. This is very important because most RTO"s do not have adequate facilities, equipment or Trainers to do the practical assessment for the maintenance welding skillset. This means that partner RTO's can now offer the Maintenance Welding Skillset using the industry based MWC microcredential to provide the practical assessment evidence, and focus on the remaining knowledge gap training and assessment. WQMS also has a comprehensive LMS to deliver the required training, which is available for license to partner RTO's.
